From A to Beach: A Meeting Planner’s Guide to Getting Around Fort Myers

One of the main reasons the Fort Myers area is a great place to host your group event – other than the shell-strewn beaches, breathtaking sunsets and abundant wildlife – is the area’s convenient location. When your group is here, they’ll feel as though they're light years away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. But thanks to Southwest Florida International Airport, coming and going is a breeze. Once your group has touched down in our little corner of paradise, commuting around town is even easier than it was to get here. So buckle up: here’s everything you need to know about getting from point A to point B in our islands, beaches and neighborhoods.

From the Airport to the Hotel

Southwest Florida International Airport truly is the gateway to the Fort Myers area. Located about 20 miles from Fort Myers Beach and 24 miles from Sanibel Island, this airport lands your group near the beautiful beaches that this area is famous for. Once they're on the ground, they have several options, including rental cars, on-demand taxis, pre-arranged taxis and limousines, ride app companies and public transportation. Explore all the ground transportation options from the airport here and find the area hotels offering free airport shuttle service here.

Getting Around

As soon as your group is settled in and ready to explore, they’ll find that getting around is a snap. LeeTran offers a multitude of bus and trolley routes throughout the area, including the popular Fort Myers Beach Trolley and downtown Fort Myers' River District Trolley. Several local transportation companies can also assist you with your group's transportation needs.

Rent and Ride

When your group is in a place as beautiful as our islands, beaches and neighborhoods, sometimes the journey can be just as fun as the destination. If they feel like exploring the area at a more leisurely pace, they can try renting a bike, scooter or golf cart for a fun and easy way to get from place to place. For rentals on Fort Myers Beach, visit Fun “N” Sun Beach & Bike Rentals, or in Cape Coral, visit Quicky Scooters. To scoot around Sanibel, check out Billy’s Bikes and Rentals. Or, if they're on Captiva Island, Yolo Watersports Inc. will set them up with a golf cart, scooter or bike.

Getting Around Offshore

In a water wonderland with 600 miles of coastline and 100 islands, it's no surprise that you'll also find many boating and cruise options for your group, including Captiva Cruises, Adventures in Paradise, and Island Girl Charters, to name just a few. The Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa offers a cruise to a private island experience on Big Hickory Island and the Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village offers their guests a complimentary water taxi to Fort Myers Beach.
