Inovative promotion using a Jim Carrey-like comedian for the videos to show the various aspects of Sanibel and Captiva and Fort Meyers Beach! We love the area and have visited every year for 20 years, and will continue to go back.
Not sure how successful we want the promotion to be as we like the quiet off-season months! But, seriously, appreciate the chance to win the vacation package at 2 great resorts; and, enjoying a laugh online.
I have been in the travel and tourism industry for 28 years and must say I LOVE these commercials. It is light hearted and really gives the impression of having FUN in a beautiful setting. Keep the campaign going!!!
I am the owner of a small establishment in Fort Myers and I cannot tell you how much feedback I have had about these commercials. I have had more calls from people asking if they can buy the dan t-shirts than anything else. How can people not like the commercial staring our very own Ethel? How can that commercial be negative in any way? I’m shocked at the people who are leaving comments about how much they dislike the campaign. They must not be locals, because these commercials have already done so much for my business. I would ask that someone from the tourist board leave a comment describing all the positive affects these commercials have had. The people who are not happy with them are very misinformed. If they knew how much these are doing for our livelihoods I doubt they would be leaving poor replies.
We desperately need Dan to come back for more promotion, and we need people to back this campaign. Anyone basing a decision about a possible vacation purely on whether the main character in a commercial is annoying or not really has it wrong and needs to look at the whole picture. These commercials are light hearted, amusing, insightful and staring some of our very own locals. From a local resident to the organizers of this campaign, please, bring back Dan, bring back the campaign and to everyone out there reading this, Fort Myers, Sanibel and all surrounding areas would love to see you all soon.
The only thing more relaxing than shelling is watching the red haired lady just about catch up to Dan as he runs away from her on the beach! LOL .....Way to Go, Dan!
Have you seen the regular not so funny PSA that Dan has done for the area? Are you saying that a commercial like this packs more punch than the funny commercials? Absolutely not! We have all seen the series service announcements for Florida and the Gulf, but they are all the same. These funny ones are catching people’s attention more than the serious ones I have seen, and how that can be a negative thing I just don’t understand.
Bring back Dan, bring back the humor and bring back tourism to Fort Myers and Sanibel.

I’m all for free speech and everyone in entitled to their opinions but leaving negative comments on the main website that people visit when possibly deciding if they should come visit is detrimental to our area. We are trying to FIGHT negativity. People around the world think that we have oil here when we don’t. Leaving unflattering comments on here is doing nothing positive for us.
If you don’t like the guy in the commercial, so what? You think he is preventing people from booking their vacations? Absolutely not. If people don’t book because of the commercials then they don’t deserve to experience our amazing home. So please, set up your own Anti-Commercial pages if you want, but let’s focus on what’s important. These commercials have had a huge impact, for the better. We need people to keep coming, and a little humor in time of disaster has never hurt anyone. Thank you.

The buy a sense of humor fund was started for those folks who do not see the humor in these commercials! Donations can be in the form of positive feedback to some of the comments being made to the contrary. These ads, with Dans help are contributing to a come back in an area that had been struggling. Fact is, that it takes more energy to frown then to smile...so smile. I promise that it will make you feel better. Just like these commercials do!

Sorry Scott but I have to disagree. Regardless of the actual acting or whether or not you find the actor or the campaign funny, it is doing what it set out to do. It’s getting national coverage in a way that an ordinary advertising campaign just wouldn’t do. It's eye and ear catching, and in desperate times like this I believe it stands out and gets the message across - there is no oil on our beautiful beaches.
This campaign made the New York Times. Funny or not, it’s different and it’s working and that’s all that matters.

We love Sanibel and Captiva. Went looking for "The Bubble Room" the first visit, we found a whole lot more. Have been back over the years, this place means "vacation". If you've never been, try it out. Relaxing, fun, whatever you want it to be! Seeing Dan brings me back, we've walked so many of the beaches that we finally have the Sanibel stoop and have perfected the shuffle. Love the shelling, could spend the entire day seaking out the treasures there. Have seen manatee and rays, dolphins and the most incredible sunsets. Don't wait, get your feet wet, you can never spend too much time on vacation!
