Captiva Island: A Family Favorite
Captiva Island is one of Florida's top five family destinations, says Florida Travel + Life.
Captiva Island is peaceful and family-friendly
| The May/June 2009 issue of Florida Travel + Life magazine features Southwest Florida's Captiva Island in a story called "Summer on the Fly," which details five top family destinations across the state.
Relaxation and affordability are two of Captiva's biggest draws according to writer Ana Connery, who captures such details as the "vibrant soundtrack" of island music, playful dolphins and beautiful beaches "hugging" her resort. The resident wildlife – from frolicking marine mammals to raccoons, gators and colorful birds – promises to fascinate the whole family. Similarly, the island's gingerbread cottages, beach shops and kid-friendly eateries make for a magical, fun-for-all escape.
Captiva Island is located west of Fort Myers between Pine Island Sound and the Gulf of Mexico. The island, along with its southern neighbor Sanibel Island, can be accessed by car via a three-mile-long causeway originating from Fort Myers. Both islands offer a range of family-friendly accommodations, including resort suites, condo rentals and vacation home rentals.
